The human experience is full of juxtapositions. It is both whimsical and mundane, joyful and mysterious, soft and hard. As a figurative artist, I paint recognizable human forms while incorporating surreal elements to convey discomfort with the unknown. This puts a familiar character in a fantastical world, inviting the viewer to form their own interpretation of the piece.

I focus primarily on the female form because I am interested in how we, as women, are connected to our earth and each other. What does it mean to be a woman? To be a human? Women’s bodies are deeply connected to the natural cycles of our world, yet we are constantly controlled, used and judged by our society. My work explores these darker themes through a whimsical, sometimes playful lens, as womanhood contains multitudes.

Inspired by the dramatic illustrations found in modern comic books, I work in acrylic paints to capture similar bold colors and graphic mark-making. While acrylic paint is my preferred medium, I experiment with many materials, including colored pencil, pastels, and collage. I am drawn to the patterns and designs found in nature, mixing realism with abstraction to mimic the world around us.
